Alpen® Pro Model
#317 8x42
"One
of the rewards of doing a product test like this is that you discover optics
that offer outstanding quality at exceptionally reasonable prices. Such is the
case with the Alpen Pro 8x42 Porro-prism binocular, which got a nearly perfect
score in our value-rating category. For a street price of between $100and $130,
the buyer gets an extra-wide, 430-foot field of view, long 19 mm eye relief and
surprisingly good resolution and image brightness. Even as a confirmed optics
snob who seldom hunts with anything other than high-class glass, I could be
quite happy hunting with this Alpen Pro 8x42 binocular."
Alpen #267
Compact 8 X 25 mm Wide Angle Binoculars
"As
with all compacts, this 8x25 Porro-prism binocular is optically handicapped by
its under-sized
objectives
lenses, which limit resolution and low-light performance. Even so, it scored
well against players twice its size and 10 times more expensive. The panelists
were favorably impressed and gave it good ratings in all categories, especially
price-value, where it got the highest score of all tested binoculars."
